So I Went to the Orthopedist Today ...

... about the plantar fasciitis in my left foot. And he basically said "Well, our Round 1 therapies haven't been effective, so I have several possible things you could do for Round 2." And in the interest of efficicacy and time-saving, I opted to ...
... have a cortisone injection directly into the heel of my foot.
Really, the song and dance he made about this was amazing. He must have some patients with very sensitive feet and low threshholds of pain. The idea of it was nasty, but even though it hurt quite a lot, it was over in about 30 seconds. I just deep-breathed my way through it (which freaked him out a bit).
Anyway, it's still a bit achy, but he said it should improve rapidly. And I'm also supposed to see about physical therapy twice a week for 4 weeks or so.
Now if this stupid cough I picked up in Cophenhagen would just go away! It seems to be fading, but it's slow.

Date: 2008-07-10 02:01 am (UTC)Freeze spray? Hell, no! Macho Cho needs no stinkin' freeze spray! Also, he didn't offer me any ... .
XD
It's still a mite sore and swollen-feeling. I'll have to set up those PT appointments. We'll see how it feels tomorrow - I had to stand on it a lot today, and that's what's really been killing it.
I think he was afraid I was hyperventilating and was therefore going to faint on him! But I get stubborn a lot of the time. The information that everyone else was terribly freaked out by the pain was enough to make me detemined not to be.

Date: 2008-07-10 02:05 am (UTC)Heh, my hormone situation is so mixed up already with the Tamoxifen, I don't want to imagine what could happen ... . The tissues down there are still a little sore. I probably need to do the PT thing too.

Date: 2008-07-10 02:08 am (UTC)Yeah, the concept was revolting to think about ... I mean, one of the main reasons the Young Lady was delivered by natural childbirth was that the whole idea of an epidural (you're going to stick a needle in my spine???) freaked me out so much.
We'll see about the results - it still feels a little tender and swollen right now.

Date: 2008-07-10 02:19 am (UTC)I'm still a little freaked out by getting novocaine at the dentist! But really, the cortisone shot seemed the fastest way to break the inflammation cycle, so there was no point in letting the squirminess win.
They had a hideous pair of big white MBT sandals on sale at Comfort One today (they're having a clearance), but I think they may have even been too big. And white sandals ... - man, with me that would just be asking for trouble.
They did indeed arrive! But I got home late - a torrential rainstorm that probably missed NoVA entirely (I saw it on the weather radar at work before I left - it was skimming the north corner of DC) hit just as I got to Takoma station, and I stood around waiting for it to let up (no umbrella, which was really stupid of me). So by the time I got home, I just threw together a pretty half-assed stir-fry - really, just onions and briefly-marinated beef (did you see the Post Food section article that said that time doesn't really make much of a difference to marinating?). But we also had noodles - that was the one thing I couldn't really do well with no stove - and steamed green beans, and at one point I had all four burners going! (I was boiling water to reconstitute the broth concentrate I use when I make stir-fry.)
Now I have to experiment with loading the dishwasher. The Mr. had to re-do a bit of the plumbing, which seemed to give him the weirdest mixture of triumph and exasperation!

No, I haven't been ... you know, the more active comms really soak my flist. I guess I ought to subscribe to it, at least - or do they have the goodies out in the open, like Saiyuki comm or Love_deeper?

Date: 2008-07-14 02:12 pm (UTC)Arrrgh, so much stuffs to experience, so little time! Akamine Kamijyo (SDK) abruptly ended her steampunk-ish Silvery Crow series, but her new one, Code Breaker, is coming out of the gate strongly. And I've only read the first issue's scanlation thus far!
I seem to recall that Hakkai is the only guy in the ikkou to use boku. That would an interest tidbit to track for the SDK guys too. Akira is very poliet until he gets POed, but I don't know if he's polite enough to be using boku. I imagine Yukimura does!

Date: 2008-07-15 09:36 pm (UTC)Awww, I so bad want you to be able to read some of my SDK fic ... > puppy-dog-eyes *you* <
;-)
And vol. 29 of SDK is out ... I ordered it on Amazon because Borders didn't seem to be getting to it. And now I have to wait until next Monday!
Yes, Kyo is definitely an ore-sama type. In fact, at one point he makes a statement that "I am myself - nothing more and nothing less!" - and it comes out very poetically, with ore-sama as part of it.
No, really poking around the F-Y comm is one of the things I haven't been able to do! The normal-life-and-hearty-dinners one sounds very cute.

Date: 2008-07-16 04:13 pm (UTC)Eeek! I wish you had let me know you were having trouble finding them - I could have kept an eye out at the Silver Spring Borders.
(You can read "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" once they get out of the forest and are recovering at the inn.)
Hee, maybe we should go shopping at Dupont Circle sometime.
The FAKE final scene was sneaky - if you had some idea what was likely to be going on, it was pretty clear ... .
