This Routine System Rollover ... Isn't

I had to stay "just a little past six" to double-check the effects of swapping to a new webserver, which we had been testing.

There was one thing we couldn't really test until it was in place. And that isn't working.

Sooooo ... they're still messing around with it. I am tired. And increasingly hungry. And oyceter has a thread going about comfort foods ... !!!!   > drool ... <

Ooooh...that's just wrong. Are you at least getting overtime pay?

Overtime? I'm a professional ("overtime-exempt") employee, my good woman ... that means that if the job happens to require overtime - I work it. End of story.

If it's going to happen a lot, and you know ahead of time, you can arrange for "comp time," which you can store up for a while and use like annual leave. But you have to know about it ahead of time ... .

Agh, don't you hate it when people (or TV commericials) talk about food when you can't like, magically have that specific food RIGHT NOW OMG SO HUNGRY?

Yeah, I hate that. Lately, my stepmum and I have been satisfying our gourmet urges by keeping a handy supply of brie and crackers in the house.

For me that would be Manchego and crackers, or maybe Wensleydale with cranberries, and crackers. Brie has that funny white stuff on it ... .

At the moment, I'd be glad to see any food that I could actually make myself swallow, frankly! No liver, nothing totally totally grease-soaked - but I'd even be happy with a vending machine sandwich at this point.

I've never had Manchego. Or heard of it, actually.

I actually eat around the funny white stuff; my stepmum likes it (something about the texture...I dunno).

It's a Spanish cheese I first had at a tapas restaurant (do they have tapas up by you? Basically, you make a meal by ordering a bunch of little appetizer things ...). It's a firm, very pale yellow cheese with a strong, slightly tart classic cheese taste - rather like cheddar, but not as fatty or rich-tasting. It's very good with apples. (In fact, that's how I had it - as a salad with matchsticks of cheese and apple.

Huh. No, I don't think we have tapas; at least, not that I know of. Then again, I know nothing of restaurants-- I just know where the best coffee in town is :)

Exactly! I feel like I can't actually make plot with characters that were created by someone else or something. I start giggling and thinking "omg this is like, a fanfic!" and then everything is ruined.

Well, of course, right after I said that, I thought of an insider-the-character's-head one I'd meant to do a while back, about this guy (icon), Shigure from Fruits Basket, because he is an extremely conflicted person, and I get tired of people constantly going Arrrrgh! He's such a creep! and not taking a look at the situation from his point of view.

Oh yes, I have read a little Fruits Basket and yes, Shigure is very worthy of that kind of fic :) And he is a creep too XD

Aw, poor Shigure! He can't help it! Imagine being a romantically-inclined 27-year-old man - with no outlet for it! I'm just surprised he's not even weirder than he is! (We won't even get into the sort of things that I imagine he and Ayame got up to in their youth ... .)

This is true. Aw man, now I want to write a fic about it. Of course, this would probably require me to read more FB, which...would take a lot of time. Because there's a million volumes (says the girl who has read nearly the entire 30-something volume Ranma 1/2 manga)...

Well, Furuba is only up to like vol. 18 - that's not much, comparatively! But we have some pretty appalling (or perhaps amazing, depending on your viewpoint) revelations in the previous volume - about the gentleman in question, in particular.

Yeah, my old favorite manga, Samurai Deeper Kyo (which I was just squeeing over) will eventually go to 38 volumes. Only a dozen more to go! (I've actually read most of the remaining volumes in scanslations, but a couple are missing because the translator was not so interested in them, so there are a few places where I'm not sure how the characters got from point X to point Y ... .)

Still, for me that's a lot at the moment. Plus, I've been fairly thoroughly spoiled for the FB that is currently in English by most of my friends.

I have somehow managed to miss all those movies! We actually went to try to see one once, and it turned out it hadn't opened yet at that theater ... . It's hard to get good Wensleydale - it doesn't seem to store very well, and the last few times I've tried to buy it, it no longer had that fresh-milk taste to it. But the cranberry version, which has a less subtle flavor, seems to tolerate that aging better.

I second the Wallace and Gromit--they're very funny! So is Creature Comforts, which may or may not be by the same studio. Anyway, it's the same kind of animation.
