Why, It's the iPod Meme!

I see that I did this only about 6 months ago, but the heck with it, I love me some constrained randomosity (in that there is a set number of songs, but within that set, it's random)... .
You can tell a lot about someone by the music they listen to. Hit shuffle on your iPod/iPhone/iTunes/media player and write down the first 10 songs. Then pass this on to 10 people. ... No tagging here, but I'd enjoy seeing your song lists.
- Hakol Over (This Too Shall Pass) - Idan Raichel Project
- A Lonely Voice - October Project
- Come to My Window - Melissa Etheridge
- Golden Slumbers - The Beatles
- Two Tickets to Paradise - Eddie Money
- Downtown Train - Everything but the Girl (Rod Stewart cover)
- Helen O'Grady/Drops of Brandy - Maggie Sansone (solo hammer dulcimer)
- East St. Louis Toodle-oo - Steely Dan (Duke Ellington cover)
- Car on a Hill - Joni Mitchell (YouTube link)
- Northwest Passage - Stan Rogers
The Joni Mitchell is one of my favorite songs ever, from the opening sax riff to the strange bridge in the middle to the sad, dreamy finish:
"It always seems so righteous at the start
When there's so much laughter, when there's so much spark
When there's so much sweetness in the dark ... ."

Date: 2015-04-29 11:37 pm (UTC)Here's my list - RealPlayer doesn't do exactly random, it makes up an hour-long playlist of top favorites, so it's kind of cherry-picked, but here goes:
1. Dindi – Jon Lucien (Antonio Carlos Jobim cover)
2. Nada Sera Como Antes, Amanhã (Nothing Will Be As It Was, Tomorrow) – Flora Purim
3. Forget Myself – Elbow
4. Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) - Jimi Hendrix
5. My Little Brown Book – John Coltrane
6. Amie – Pure Prairie League
7. Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground – Ry Cooder
8. Fall On Me, Angel – Muddy Apes
9. Emotions Wound Us So – Larry Carlton
10. In the Waiting Line – Zero 7

Date: 2015-05-03 01:38 am (UTC)Yes, the whole album is wonderful. The big hits from it are also favorites of mine.
My sister Amy *hated* that Pure Prairie League song when we were growing up. It's amazing how, when you're an adolescent, things like hearing your own name in a song seem so embarrassing. (I actually rather like it.) I'm somewhat familiar with Purim, Hendrix, and Coltrane, and I have heard of Ry Cooder, but the others are new to me. I guess I should check them out!

You may actually know him but don't know you know him: he wrote and performed the theme song to Hill Street Blues and also was one of the guitarists on Steely Dan's 'Aja' and 'The Royal Scam'.
Oh, I bet your sister had an endless string of guys singing that song to her trying to get a rise. The only song with my name ever was the Kink's "Victoria", which wasn't a very big hit (and I'm not actually a Victoria, either). I recently found that "Amie" has another song immediately preceding on that album called "Falling in and Out of Love" that's a perfect segue into it.
