Name That Tune meme! (sans iPod!)
Sep. 30th, 2008 08:39 amI don't have an iPod, but I did this anyway! The process involved generating random numbers with an Excel spreadsheet ... .
Like everyone else, I skipped things that weren't in English.
Meme:
- Put your music player on Random.
- Post the first line from the first 32 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song
- Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from.
- Bold the songs when someone guesses correctly.
And ... here we go:
- The daylight's fading slowly, but time with you is standing still
- We're coming to the edge, running on the water
- If you loose your faith, babe, you can have mine,
- I remember the nights I watched as you lay sleeping
- She can kill with a smile, she can wound with her eyes
- You ought to see your face; you ought to hear your voice
- Workin’ Friday night down at the Alley
- Operator, well, could you help me place this call?
- It was 100 degrees as we sat beneath a willow tree
- "The problem is all inside your head", she said to me
- She says it's been so long she can't remember when
- Desert loving in your eyes all the way
- Darling don't you understand, I feel so ill at ease
- Turned on the weather man just after the news
- He had a dream haunting him at night
- While the poor people sleepin' with the shade on the light
- I've been sitting up waiting for my sugar to show
- Hey, your glass is empty / It's a hell of a long way home
- Walking like a ghost in my own movie
- Lights out tonight, trouble in the heartland
- Just a kiss, just a kiss / I have lived just for this
- I am just a poor boy, though my story's seldom told
- You look frenzied, you look frazzled, peaked as any alp
- Is it too much to ask? I want a comfortable bed that won't hurt my back
- When the road gets dark, and you can no longer see
- Out on the street - you'd better get on home
- The language of love slips from my lover's tongue
- And now I'm all alone again, nowhere to turn, no one to go to
- Tell me, where did Helen go? This is where she had her dwelling
- If I could turn the page / In time then I'd rearrange just a day or two
- Johnny take a walk with your sister the moon
- I'll buy you six bay mares to put in your stables

Date: 2008-09-30 07:57 pm (UTC)100% correct!
XD
(Yeah, I laughed when "Funeral" came up ... it's like "And if that's not enough to make you recall the song, there's some more in the LJ layout!")

Date: 2008-10-02 03:48 pm (UTC)It pops up on my Playlist of the Mind fairly frequently, along with several of the others. I'm very stuck on "Ariel" for some reason, which is funny because it's kind of a dorky song. I think "Return to Me" is my favorite overall, "Bury My Lovely" the most affecting, and "Eyes of Mercy" the one that is most sympatico to my usual operating wavelength.

Date: 2008-10-02 11:38 am (UTC)I'm beginning to think I must have quite a range myself, given how few things people are guessing ... .

Date: 2008-10-01 11:30 am (UTC)Hmmm, maybe I'll put The Photo Album on my holiday list ... the relatives like it when we want CDs or DVDs because then they don't have to think too much ... . (Really, it's not their fault - we're out and out geeks, and they're not. It's just how life is ... .)

Date: 2008-09-30 09:31 pm (UTC)No, sorry. More or less the right era, but not the right song or singer.

Date: 2008-10-01 06:22 pm (UTC)18. Good Enough, Sarah McLachlan
(tunes meme)
Date: 2008-10-02 11:50 am (UTC)Right, and of course, right!
:-)
All my Sarah McLachlan albums are at work - they're soothing for me there. (You might like October Project, btw ... same sort of dreaminess, but the lead has a stunning alto voice and the emotional intensity is ratcheted up a few notches.)
