Today's Problem: Water?
Jun. 12th, 2008 08:08 amSo today I should be doing wash and packing. But while I was getting the Young Lady off to school for her last 2 exams, I found that I couldn't turn the kitchen tap off completely. This is a symptom of low water pressure, and sure enough, the Mr. heard on the radio that there's a major water main break down the highway at Piney Branch Road.
They haven't locked down the main yet, so by using the basement bathroom, I was able to shower, and I'm running a load of cold water wash (mostly lingerie and some linen tops) - I hope it gets through the rinse before the water goes away entirely ... and I've been catching the trickle in the kitchen sink in every soup pot and bucket I can, to flush the johns and so on once the water goes off.
This is, BTW, the third time we've had water issues in 10 days. I feel like I'm living in a third-world country instead of one of the nation's wealthiest counties.

Date: 2008-06-12 01:22 pm (UTC)Well, I heard the trickle into the bucket in the sink stop, and just went to check - the water pressure seems to be normal! So either they've fixed it already (which seems unlikely - the WSSC phone person said it would take 6-8 hours to fix) or they've set up "local water distribution" - I'm not sure how they do that, but I've heard a lot of big trucks driving up and down the street while I've been online.
I better go run hang up the cold wash so it will have a snowball's change of heck of drying before we leave tomorrow (the nylon bras should but maybe not anything else ... that's OK, the tops were for work when I get back).
