The Continuing Crisis

Ahh, it's morning ... I never could get the hang of "morning."
I forgot my badge/keycard for work, and had to go through the metal detector and stuff like a visitor.
The bead bracelet that ipperne gave me when the illness was diagnosed last fall has broken. Not too surprising: 6+ months of all-day everyday wear. I'll have to get some new cord for it this weekend at the bead store down the street. So now I'm carrying it in a little plastic parts bag in my pocket. My wrist feels naked.
And speaking of that ... the Washington Post Express (free newspaper handed out at the Metro) had a pic of 18-yr-old Daniel Radcliff ("Harry Potter") in his "Equus" theatrical role. Nude, shown from below the navel on up. I looked. And looked again. And again. > facepalm < OMG, I'm turning into a dirty old lady!!!

Date: 2008-04-10 02:44 pm (UTC)I thought you'd find that ... interesting in view of previous discussion! (Hey, I'm not afraid to admit when I've been an idiot ... .)

Date: 2008-04-10 03:22 pm (UTC)It's a very, very fine non-stretchy black cord - synthetic, at a guess, from the way the little fibers at the break look. Here's what it looks like - very thin, as you can see. Almost like a super-heavy thread.
I just wanted to fix it and get it back on my wrist ASAP - I wear it to remind me of all of you guys. So I thought running down to Beadazzled on Saturday would be the fastest (unless you want to meet for brunch somewhere!). I don't know that I will make it back the way it was - I can do some basic macrame stitches, and I might incorporate the two beads into something sturdier.

Date: 2008-04-11 06:30 pm (UTC)I was going to go with black-and-pink but maybe throw a little natural white in there for contrast. Yes, the holes are pretty little - I'd be inclined to try using a needle to thread them.
I could probably meet you somewhere for a bit of a visit - the Mr. is claiming he needs to work on taxes, which he usually does in isolation until he's ready to walk me through what he's worked out and get my signature. The question will be whether I can convince the Young Lady to stay behind and work on her term papers.

Date: 2008-04-10 04:41 pm (UTC)I was in London this summer and I was so sad that the play had ended no more than 10 days before I got there... I missed it by this much.

Date: 2008-04-11 06:33 pm (UTC)Yes, that's what I'd heard as well. But as someone who's very easily old enough to be his mom, I feel pervy about staring at his flat tummy ... .
XD
It's a very disturbing play, IIRC. I think I read through the script once.

Date: 2008-04-10 05:41 pm (UTC)Daniel Radcliffe is... Hot. Looking at him, again, is not being a dirty old la
dy. It's enjoying life.
so is watching him kissing another guy during some event I didn't reallypay attention to because, well, he was kissing another guyno subject
Date: 2008-04-11 06:41 pm (UTC)He's ... very decorative.
Yes, I think my attention to detail would be distracted as well!He starting to look rather like Cho Hakkai from Saiyuki. But he's much much too young for me! (He's only 2 years older than my daughter, and I had her in my early 30s ... .)(I mean, if my openly gay friend who's my age feels bad about ogling boys of this age, I guess it's not too repressed of me to feel the same ... .)
Well, let's see what smilla and I can work up about re-doing it. It will be fun, and these particular beads have significance for me because they've been with me through this whole thing. It's a kind offer, though.

Date: 2008-04-12 12:13 am (UTC)Well, I hope you won't be too disappointed if I don't spend a huge amount of time there ... I'm having some trouble with plantar fasciitis in my left foot, so I need to limit the time walking/standing. But I certainly want to meet with you, take in the scene a bit, have a bite to eat. When were you thinking of going out there?
And sure, I'd love to look at some spacer beads, if you have spares!

Date: 2008-04-12 04:18 am (UTC)Wait, I'm now confused - you're coming up to my neck of the woods? I thought was heading on downtown. We'd better connect by phone tomorrow morning or something (not before 10, probably ... ).
The pink disk-shaped bead is about 0.25 inch in diameter and 0.125 inch thick. The rectangular block bead (which acted as a button) is 0.75 inch long and about 0.375 inch square on the end.
The phone number I have for you that starts 571 - is that the cell?

Date: 2008-04-12 02:44 pm (UTC)Oh no, I certainly wouldn't expect you to be bringing much! I was thinking of some natural white (shell/bone colors) beads.
Yes, it was very fine cord - I was surprised at how sturdy it was. And yes, the whole thing was weirdly dainty yet punk-ish. It was a lot daintier than the typical rubber "cause" bracelet.

Date: 2008-04-12 03:40 pm (UTC)Yeah, I was thinking the same when I looked at the weather report.
I think I'll go wake up my hubby ... he was up 'til 4:00am playing Civ, which is really, really unusual - he's an early bird. And then I'll figure out exactly how I'm playing this. Don't call me ... I'll call you. ;-)

Date: 2008-04-12 02:49 pm (UTC)No, I haven't tried those. I have a newish pair of Naot sandals (they're sort of midway between sandals and shoes - heel cup, ankle strap, and toe cap, with an open shank) that seem fairly comfy with it, and I'll try wearing my Tevas today - they're men's Terra Fi - they're meant for walking, and I live in them suring the warm months, unless we're going out someplace dressy (I change them when I get to work). (Oh, and I don't pay that price for them - I use the Intarwebs to find strap color closeouts. Teva's been making them for several years, so I can usually find some at about half that price.)
