My Inner European!

I think it was comedian Lenny Bruce who said that "Italians are Jewish," so I guess this works (he had a schtick where he was dividing all the cultures of the world into Jewish and non-Jewish). Although I have a feeling that my fondness for tirimisu (which was one of the possible answers to a question about dessert) is mostly responsible.

Date: 2008-01-25 04:20 pm (UTC)I didn't answer this right away because I've been thinking about it ... so you mean that even in my ideal world, I'd still want to be doing things differently from the crowd? If so, you're probably right ... there's a deep-seated and probably rather dysfunctional need to be "special"!

I have put my foot well into my mouth here, being so presumptious. I didn't mean anything seriously but I still probably said it all wrong...

Date: 2008-01-29 04:28 pm (UTC)Mia, you worry too much! (So do I, of course.)
I love insights into why I do things, so I was just trying to figure out exactly what you meant. I'm not offended in the least.
And yes, I see what you mean. Actually, it's like the argument my husband-to-be and I had before he sort-of proposed: he was complaining that everyone expected us to get married, and he hated to seem like he was going along with it. I countered that by not doing what he wanted to do, just to avoid doing what everyone thought he should, he was letting them influence him just as much!
