Question - Online Shopping for Anime

Can anyone recommend a good online source for ordering, say, "Ouran High School Host Club" on DVD?

The Young Lady has requested this, and I see that this site has it (complete series, 3 discs) for quite a reasonable price, but I have no idea if they're reputable. It's easy to find out who has it, but not whether they're OK folks.

hmm...I've never bought from DVD asian, but people I know who have have been satisfied. They'll be pirated, though, and, and likely have engrish subs that are occassionally incomprehensible, but it's probably the best you'll find to buy on DVD until the whole thing has been released in licensed form.

Oooh, I hadn't thought about the pirating issue! I guess she'll have to do without ... she's heard me on the subject of copyright and right and wrong often enough. It's one thing to download some fan scanslation for free, another to help someone line his or her pockets for vending someone else's work without permission.

^^;;; Those are definitely bootlegs... with bootlegs, you never know how good the subs will be. Sometimes they steal them from fansubs so they're really good, but usually they're a really horrid Japanese->Chinese->English translation. And you don't get an English voice track. (I don't know if the YL prefers her anime subbed or dubbed.) I'm not an Ouran fan... but if I remember correctly, it was licensed by Funimation and is scheduled to begin official US release in 2008. Until then, there's always free fansubs on Veoh!

God, it's a good thing you're here to tell me these things! I wouldn't have known ... well, I told her she can't have them. Free fan translations and stuff are one thing, paying someone money for someone else's work without permission is another. She can wait!

(It's not like her Hanukkah list isn't dozens of items long!)

I don't know about Ouran specifically, but I've been ordering anime from Right Stuf (www.rightstuf.com) for several years now and they're very reliable. Their weekly sales tend to have very good bargains.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've been informed that the Ouran CDs I was looking at are pirated, so I won't be getting them in any case, but I'll keep Right Stuf in mind for other things. Unfortunately, they don't have the 2008 Saiyuki calendar that I was trying to find, though.

You have what Linus once described as a "good remembery." But the funny thing is, although the Google listing shows her remarking about how she got it at YesAsia, the actual posts don't. She must have gone back and edited it out for some reason.

Bootleg is BAD, and its definatly not the fact that its illegal. I am the last person that will, and can >_< *ahem*.., preach about illegalities. Anyway, its the fact that half of the series probably wont work and the subtitles are INSANE!!!! I've had my fair share of run-in with bootleged series, not something I'd recommend purchasing.

Makes sense - I'm not buying them. The only anime I've bought for presents thus far was the Mushishi starter set for the Mr., and that was legit, through Amazon.
