They're working on the playground again ... .
It's even worse than it sounds: my office is about 3 feet below the grade in the courtyard, so the jackhammering is right about at shoulder level when I'm sitting at my desk - about 8 feet behind me and through a single layer of safety glass.
The guy who's doing it isn't wearing any ear protection, either.

Date: 2007-10-06 03:11 am (UTC)Yeah, it was really horrible there this morning ... and I was shell-shocked the rest of the day (still feeling it a bit). Honestly, I imagine that both the jackhammer guys and the guy who was later holding up a sheet of plywood to keep the concrete chips away from my window (and didn't that make a great noise ...) couldn't have much of their hearing left!

Date: 2007-10-06 03:13 am (UTC)I found myself wondering about whether they were unionized employees ... usually on the construction sites around here, you see signs in both English and Spanish about wearing earmuff/headphone thingies when using that sort of equipment! When they got really near the window, my desk was shaking.

Date: 2007-10-06 03:15 am (UTC)I think they were maybe poor Latino day workers ... the unions around here are usually pretty good about making people wear protective stuff. Yeah, the project chiefs ought to be ashamed of themselves.
