A tornado warning was issued. But although our recycling bins got blown around and some small tree branches came down, we never lost power (although it flickered several times). When I headed out after the rain had mostly stopped, because I had grocery shopping to do, I found trees down along MD 410 and other roads, and traffic lights out for miles. I couldn't pick up anything at the drugstore because they had shut for lack of power.
Apparently the power to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission's largest filtration plant went out as well, so we're all under water restrictions. (We missed the first round of that this month because we were on vacation - the earlier one was caused by a failed water main.)

Date: 2010-07-26 02:14 pm (UTC)We had some storms and rain this weekend, but nothing bad. In fact, we sat on the porch and grilled steaks under our two foot overhang while the rain poured down. It was really fun.

Date: 2010-07-29 12:59 am (UTC)Oh, I like thunderstorms. But I take storms seriously in this area ... the La Plata tornado of 2002 and the damage that we got during Hurricane Isabel have convinced me that the weather around here is not a trivial matter!

Date: 2010-07-29 01:03 am (UTC)Yes, the "best" pictures I found of Sunday's storm were from the Bronx. My colleague reported that up in White Oak (north of here), where she was when the storm hit, all the leaves on the ground were swept up into the air, which sounds like the start of funnel activity to me.
