I Had to Ignore Someone on Facebook Today
May. 19th, 2010 10:44 pmWhen someone says something like "Are you for human rights? Or for individual rights? There is a huge difference. The two cannot occupy the same space," I don't feel like listening to them any longer.
(Person is definitely on the conservative/Libertarian side ... the Young Lady showed me how to hide the posts.)

Date: 2010-05-20 11:25 am (UTC)I know that hoping for a complete workable balance between the two is overly idealistic, but we can certainly work toward that goal. Given her other posts, her point would seem to be that those who are for human rights are somehow trampling on her individual rights.

Date: 2010-05-20 11:29 am (UTC)Oh, FB got political very quickly. Fortunately most of my friends there (old school friends, relatives, my old gaming buddies, and a fairly solid online crossover crowd from LJ and Shejidan and a couple of other places) don't tend to get terribly political. But this one is like multiple obnoxious posts every day.
She's an old high school friend, and she certainly wasn't this way back then. The Mr. says no one makes a better conservative than a liberal who's been mugged - I'm wondering whether something similar happened to her along the way.

Date: 2010-05-20 11:31 am (UTC)I'm thinking, on the basis of her other posts, that she feels that laws that support human rights trample on her individual rights somehow. The idea that we can't work to balance the two is what's got me ticked.

Date: 2010-05-20 11:33 am (UTC)Yes, that's completely justifiable here! She's an old high school friend, and she was very kind about a number of life issues when we first reconnected on FB. But recently it's been all Libertarian/conservative all the time. I got tired of seeing something outrageous every time I stopped by to check on people.
