Icon Inspiration
Apr. 28th, 2010 10:17 pmI want an exercise/fitness icon, and I'd prefer a manga one, but I'm having little luck remembering anything that would work, especially if I want to use a female character. I tried one of the frames of Revy (Black Lagoon) doing her crazy reverse pullups belowdecks from vol. 7, but it isn't coming out very well - too much of the scene was hidden by speech balloons to really get an idea of what she's doing once it's cropped in tightly.
Anyone have any ideas?
I can always do something with a photo from Flickr Creative Commons, but that's not what I really want.

Date: 2010-04-30 02:13 am (UTC)Yes, actually, there are a couple of pics that might work, early on in FB - there's the field day scene where Haru first shows up, too. I could use the one of Tohru gamely trying her best on the run. (Ouran also has a field day sequence - I should see whether anything from that would work.)
Thanks!

Date: 2010-04-30 02:16 am (UTC)Umm ... the trouble with that is that I've never seen it! I'm weird with video media - there's a lot I haven't seen that would seem to be de rigueur for a fannish person.

Date: 2010-04-30 02:18 am (UTC)I really don't like exercise very much, but I hate what happens to me when I don't get it even more.
Hmmm, if I'm going with one of the boys, I'd probably try to do something with the one of Gojyo and his little hand weight (after the Mahjong game, when they're sitting in the bar strategizing).

Date: 2010-05-01 01:06 pm (UTC)It's boring primarily because I do it by myself.
When I was at the Operations Center, my co-worker Lana ran a little aerobics class. The moves were very simple, I helped her put the music together, and I knew everyone in the class. (And we had a supervisor who believed in work/life balance and encouraged us to take the break to exercise ... rest in peace, Peggy.)
Likewise Aikido, when I had time to devote to it. It was something I did with other people.
I usually watch music videos when I'm on the bike (although that means I have to keep changing the channel to get things I can tolerate). When I'm doing low-impact, the music is usually enough, but I'm thinking I need to make another CD for it so that I don't get too tired of the current batch of songs (I use the little CD player in the kitchen - the space is just big enough and its speakers are really pretty good).
At the moment, a class where I have to make time out of my schedule just isn't an option. Any normal 1 hr class is actually going to take closer to two hours, what with travel time, dressing/showering etc. So these things are working pretty well - I'm going for brief sessions ala telophase.
The company that does my favorite breathing/meditation video (Rainforest Creeks) has one for exercising where it looks like you're cycling or running through a natural setting - I might try getting that for the bike.

Date: 2010-05-06 02:39 am (UTC)Well, it was a funny sort of human interaction - it's not like we talked much or anything. But doing it along with the others was pleasant. We were all low-key and non-competitive.
The problem with moving my home aerobics venue to the front room is that low-hanging chandelier we have there! But the Pandora suggestion is a good one - although I won't be able to queue them up in the right tempo order (slower for warm-up, then fairly quick for the high-energy part - "This Little Girl Is Mine" is the perfect tempo for that, for example - and then slower again for the cool-down).
There are indeed music channels on our FIOS package, but again, at least half of the songs played wouldn't be right in tempo for aerobics - and I wouldn't be able to skip ahead. I have used those music channels when I'm doing the bike on weekends and VH1 and so on are showing documentaries or interviews instead of music videos.
Well, I don't do aerobics videos per se - I just do my simple moves and get into the Zen of the movement with the music. It's hard to explain, but for only 20 minutes, I don't need that much variety. 20 minutes is 5 or 6 songs, so I don't use the same ones each time even on the one CD I made. And I have a big stack of 70s and 80s Greatest Hits and Broadway - I just need to get around to making a new CD.
Really, if it's not going to be everything I want - a social thing with people I know already as well as a workout - then I want it to be simple as possible.
As far as work downtown - the problem is, we have a real gym with actual paid instructors. It's not the same. There are 3 or 4 classes of something almost every day, but it's very high-powered stuff with determined, well-polished mainstream people, and there are more than 2000 people on the building, so chances are I won't know most of the people in a given class. At the Ops Ctr, we were mostly all geeks together, many of us working on different aspects of the same projects.
I need to somehow get in a walk with you guys. I was toying with the idea of somehow getting you up here to see my old favorite haunts in Rock Creek Park, but I'm afraid a car trip up and back would not be much fun for Miss B.
