I grew up with my parents' music and what I heard in public and religious school: Broadway, light classics, some modern folk and Americana ("Roll On Columbia"), Jewish folk music and traditional liturgical music. About two thirds of the way through grade school, I suddenly became aware of pop music. It was the middle of the 1960s, and the first record I ever asked for by name was the Beatles' album Help.
