Image of Doa from Blade of the Immoral, lying on the floor reading I came across the art for this while I was doing Yuletide icon research. I'd love to know the history of it - I wouldn't have thought that Doa was even literate! Perhaps Isaku or Anotsu taught her to read. Anyway, I'm going to be mixing it in with my other reading and manga icons, and you're welcome to have it as well, if you like.

Wasn't Doa a priestess, or in training to be one? It seems there would be some writing/education in that, if only for basic purposes (I can't remember if she would have been a miko or not). Also, this being Doa, it wouldn't surprise me if she just decided she wanted to know and made someone tech her, or even just liked looking at the writing.

I don't think so. Doa was raised by Ainu and they don't have priests (not formally, anyway). They're one of the oppressed minorities in Japan and don't practice Shinto at all.

I think Anotsu and Isaku are the ones who taught her to read. I believe there was a reference to Anotsu having given her a book?

Sounds right. I was remembering references to religion and trying to remember exactly what was said.

Hey there!

Off topic, but: This feels way overdue, but I love the way you write, and I've chatted with you in other people's LJs, so I'm now friending you directly (in case you were wondering why)!

I think it's just perfect for me - I'll be using it on a forum.
