From last year's July 4 parade ....

I suddenly realized that I had never posted all the photos I took at last year's July 4 parade here in Takoma Park. (This year, of course, we were in Cape Cod for July 4.) This woman was part of a troop of South American dancers. There are tons more photos up on my Flickr account - I meant to tell the parade committee they could use them for their site if they wanted, so I included as many of the parade units as possible. I wonder if they would still be interested.
Oh, and this post is also an experiment in automatically creating an entry from Flickr.
(ETA: Only partially successful. I'll need to edit the Flickr template if I want to do photo posts this way. Also, unless they allow variables, I won't be able to do a set link. )

Date: 2009-07-20 09:27 am (UTC)Speaking of Flickr, I was poking through dog photos there the other night, and check out this handsome rogue. Now that's just the sort of canine version of Kenren I was talking about -- effortlessly wreaking havoc, and so damn charming he gets away with it. ;)

You were shooting the dolls in the Haupt Garden? I love that place - has it recovered from the devastation of last year?

The flowering trees around the Moongate Garden where I took all those shots seemed to be doing OK, but I didn't explore the entire grounds since I wanted to hit the festival vendors.

Date: 2009-07-21 05:35 pm (UTC)No, I didn't look at the other photos ... I was trying to make myself write, with many things competing for my attention as I did so. (Facebook is effin' evil. I have to log out of it if I want to concentrate on anything.)
;-)
I guess I had the wrong garden, but they seem to be adjacent; it was the Ripley Garden that was trampled horrifically during the inauguration (and of course, that was only months ago).

Date: 2009-07-21 05:40 pm (UTC)Map showing the various Smithsonian Gardens: the one that was damaged is between Arts & Industries and the Hirschorn, facing on Independence. So I guess the crowd just washed off the sidewalk into the garden. The Haupt has more structures between it and that sidewalk.
