ETA: xxxHolic, which I somehow forgot!

Most of these dates are only semi-official - from Amazon, except for the date for vol. 7 of Shaman Warrior and Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service vol. 9, which are from the Black Horse site. The release schedule for SDK seems to have been stepped up. I wonder if they're trying to finish it before the end of the year?

You'll notice one thing conspicuously absent: no, there are no Kazuya Minekura volumes scheduled for release in the next several months. >cries<

Some of you may notice something else: yes, I've picked up yet another seinen series. I need to blog Black Lagoon soon.

One more thing: Amazon lists (and Viz confirms) a new series by Fumi Yoshinaga (Antique Bakery, Flower of Life, and others). Vol. 1's listed as being 216 pp. long (!) and is due out about August 18, 2009: Ôoku: The Inner Chamber.

At first, I read the scenario and went "What? Most of the men have been killed off? Where's my BL stuff?" and then I went "Oh, wait ... ."

I'm imagining there's going to be all sorts of forbidden love ... .

I'm hoping there'll be some slashy stuff with some guy who's meant to go into the harem and he's in love with some other guy he has to leave behind - that's the sort of thing I thought of when I read the summary.

Thanks for the heads up though - Ooku looks lovely! I saw the movie about a year ago, and it was excellent. (Not sure if they're related at all).

They aren't. The movie (which I haven't seen, but weant to) is based on actual history. The manga is an alternate history where most of the men were wiped out by (I think) a plague, resulting in a reversal of gender roles and control.

Oh, thank you for the clarification! =) Hm...I'm not sure I'd be *as* interested in the alternate history, but I might look into it nevertheless.

meganb is correct - the movie was apparently about power struggles among the emperor's wives and concubines during the Tokugawa period. The Yoshinaga manga is as she described.

My front room here keeps threatening in that direction, minus the ciggie detritus. (It doesn't help that I share it as computer space with my teenaged daughter.) Also, currently our bedroom has a couple of stacks of mixed reading material just piled on the floor, awaiting reassignment to a more suitable locale.

Do you have 2 waist-high bookcases of manga double shelved with manga piled high on one of them, plus another bookcase (actually supposed to be a DVD case...about 2 feet wide 4 feet tall) and 2 stacks that you haven't read yet? (And this is with my going through the collection at least once a year and being firm about series I've lost interest in, and completed series that have been complete for a while, and that I never have an interest in revisiting at all.)

The Mr. wants me to get rid of the ones I've lost interest in, but Nana was the really the only one. Some of the others - FMA, Monster - I mean to try again when a few of the others wind down (as SDK and Furuba will, soon).

Except I can never tell what;s going to take my fancy out of nowhere - like Black Lagoon and Afterschool Nightmare.

Heh. Yes. I just read through the Viz titles where I had the first volume or two to check out over the weekend so I can take advantage and get the ones I want to continue for 40% off. The two books I expected to barely be ok, but got 1 on a rec and 1 because the volumes only cost me $3 each are the ones that interested me, and the 2 I thought I'd like ended up rather dull. OTOH, Mixed Vegetables was exactly what oyceter and rachelmanija's posts led me to expect it to be.

I'm still regretting not being able to get into Nana, since what I read and what I've heard about it past what I read sound exactly like what I like. I think, though, that I could see the problems they'd have, esp. Hachi, and they're the kinds that make me want to yell at characters.

Oooh, I already put the Nana volumes in a batch that I dropped off at the library bookstore! So sorry! (It was ages ago - last year sometime.)

Next time I'm getting rid of something, I'll be sure to run it past you ... .

How far from the end is SDK?

It ran 38 volumes in Japan, so I'm assuming the same here. Volume 32 came out in English last month.

Thanks for the info on KM's work. I've been trying to find out release dates too and had no idea where to look. TokyoPop seem terrible at keeping their website up-to-date so it might not be bad news that there are no dates there. Amazon have been the best source of information for me, but they can be overly optimistic.

I just hate what Tokyopop has done with their site! You used to be able to find a home page for each series, with a list of all the volumes and the release dates for the upcoming ones. Now it's impossible to find anything.

I know! These days I end up going round and bloody round in circles and constantly get redirected to Amazon. No wonder they're struggling financially!
