My Numenera Character Chumei

Earlier this summer, I commissioned a character portrait from Wing Buffet, whose work I encountered on tumblr. (Link goes to his ArtStation page.)

This is some of the information I sent the artist: "Chumei is an androgynous person of mixed race, perhaps 30 years old. Se likes to think of hirself as a hermit, living life in harmony with the steppes and woods of hir native land, an expert in plants and healing, consulted by those who have exhausted other remedies. Yet the reality is that Chumei joined a party of fairly rowdy adventurers and traveled with them for more than a year. There are several truths to Chumei, and se hirself may not be aware of all of them ... Chumei tries to appear serene and aloof, yet hir love of other intelligent beings and even a sense of humor might be noticed by the observant."

I also sent picture references of Bantu knot hairstyling, skin tones, weird plants, and some clothing details.

I really love how this came out, and my fellow players and our Numenera DMs recognized Chumei immediately.

In Numenera terminology, Chumei is a Rugged Jack who Works Miracles. Think of a ranger/druid with strong mystical healing abilities as well as herb-lore. Se was also pretty decent with a sword.
