It went pretty well. It was a little awkward because we had new relatives there - you may recall that I mentioned that my mom-in-law had remarried back in September. We had her husband's two daughters and their families, and I don't think they'd seen us at our usual rambunctious level before: I'm much the most quiet of the bunch, and people do a lot of teasing and even some rough-housing. (Mostly my husband and his brother wrestling with the kids, and people throwing balls of ripped-up wrapping paper at each other - that kind of thing.)
The best part was I made my sister-in-law (the minister's wife) laugh and laugh, which was good - she has a tough life, not much money and lots of stress. She hadn't been very good about letting me know what she wanted for Xmas, and I warned her that she'd better let me know or she'd get stuck with socks and underwear (which is a running gag - the Mr.'s family was poor growing up, so their mom always bought them socks and underwear for Xmas, along with one or two tiny gifts). So I got her a some nice clothes (which is what I usually do) but I also got her a couple of pairs of panties and packed them in a very fancy little box, with fabric ribbon and metallic paper and the whole 9 yards. Inside, they were wrapped with tissue paper and I sealed them with a sticker on which I wrote "Young lady, I warned you what would happen if you didn't get more specific about what you wanted!" She opened the box and read that and laughed so hard that she couldn't explain herself for about 5 minutes. It was great.
Presents from my in-laws are always a mixed bag, but I did get the "Complete Book One Collection" of Avatar on DVD, and Michael Chabon's new historical fantasy Gentlemen of the Road.
