Early Mornin' Surrealism

I don't post on neilgaimanboard very often, but I always like to check in there because there's usually something odd going on.

This morning, people were discussing whether they'd met the parents of other board members (a/k/a posters). As usual, things quickly started to go off the rail:

Cavenagh:	I thought posters sprang into existence by rising from the foamy oceans, riding on various seashells whilst they comb their hair and play the kazoo.
BeeZee:	Posters on the half-shell mmmmmmmm..........
Cavenagh:	I see the rum is running low again.
silly zombie punk:	i can't play the kazoo!
BeeZee:	It is ever thus   :(
...	...
Mystery Guest:	*places sword in front of SP [Silly Punk, a/k/a silly zombie punk] and waits for her to do the honourable thing*
silly zombie punk:	*stabs the kazoo*

(I guess stuff like this happens on chat all the time, but this way, it's preserved for those of us who don't have time to chat ... .)

Which vaguely reminds me of an LJ community that a couple of people I know belong to. It's a place for posting some of the cracked-out IRC conversations that happen in their Bleach AU MUX-type game. My favorite is the first one from way back in 2005, which features Kenpachi reading Yachiru a bedtime story (along with what appears to be an inebriated Hanatarou).

XD That commmunity is good for lots of laughs. It's not incredibly busy, so it's possible to read all of the entries. The later ones have characters from the Arrancar arc, so won't be as funny if you haven't read it. No spoilers, obviously, since it's all AU. XD

Things tend to fly fast and furious there (in fact, there's a very prolific poster known as Furious ... ), and there are bunches of threads that serve the same purpose as chat, with titles like The Shift Thread (currently in its 54th or so incarnation), What is/was for Dinner?, I Own the Board (for when there's only one poster apparently there), and What's Your Weather? The members are on average a little younger than the Shejidan folks, with all that that entails, both good and bad.

Like Shejidan, they tend to try to engineer meetings with their patron deity, but Gaiman is so hugely popular that it's a little more difficult. Still, representatives manage to show up at signings bearing red balloons (neilgaimanboard's symbol, from the red balloon carried by a particularly loony character in Sandman) and sometimes the official board T-shirts, which get re-done every couple of years. (The current one bears the slogan Hot Lewd Nerds, which is an anagram of The World's End, the board's alternative name, and also the name of the general conversation section - from a tavern in Sandman where characters gather to tell their stories.)
