hikari_mibu asked about "Musical instruments (either play or listen to)."
I was subjected to piano lessons as a child. It was what a well-brought-up suburban child did, in that time and place. I loved doing my musical theory worksheets, which were like puzzles, and hated to practice. I was not a success at learning to play! Later on, my sister nagged my father into buying a guitar for her. I was the one who learned to play it. I would play and sing folk songs - my father had a fondness for British Isles folk music. He eventually bought me a very nice little Guild classical guitar, because I have small hands and it had the gentlest action of any of the guitars at Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center that day. (Chuck Levin's is an institution! Rock bands buy stuff there.)
So anyway ... these are what I currently have on hand when I want to make a joyous noise.
The aforementioned guitar, which I really need to start playing again.
A beautiful 10-key tongue drum, which I admired so much at House of Musical Traditions that the Mr. bought it for me for our anniversary one year.
A lovely gourd drum or ipu that smillaraaq gave me. Thanks again, imouto chan!
Several recorders, including a tenor recorder (the cork on the joints is shot - I should see whether the folks at HTM know where I could get it replaced)
Several bamboo flutes. I used to have a modern, Western-style keyed flute, but I sold it to a musician friend when it was obvious that I wasn't going to be paying it much. The bamboo flutes have less range and volume, but they have beautiful, mellow tones.
