Fantasy Author Lloyd Alexander Dead at 83
May. 18th, 2007 04:12 pmApologies if this is old news already for some. I first read this on the Diana Wynne Jones mailing list yesterday, but I only just found a mainstream news link:
from the San Jose Mercury News
Vale, bard of Prydain ... .
(ETFix typo in headline ... how embarrassing!)

Date: 2007-05-20 01:19 am (UTC)It could well have been - they had been married for so long, and he was quite old. It's fairly common: my husband's grandmother died a couple of months after her gentleman friend did (she had been a widow for a couple of decades before that).

Date: 2007-05-20 01:22 am (UTC)He really was a fascinating character. What's sad is I have Faces of Fantasy, which is a photoessay book with portraits of fantasy authors, and statements from each of them. And they are starting to die off, it's awful - the book was published maybe 10-15 years ago, and several them are already gone. Inevitable, of course, but that doesn't mean I have to like it ... .

Date: 2007-05-20 02:57 am (UTC)Libraries, I couldn't venture to guess.
Because it came out a while ago, it may be hard to find in regular bookstores. Amazon and www.abebooks.com both show lots of used copies available.
It's a lot of fun. I enjoy browsing through mine time and again.
