Our Power Was Restored a Couple of Hours Ago
On the other hand, the family room addition to my sister's house (about 25-minutes' drive from ours) was crushed by a large falling tree.
The weatherfolk are calling for storms tonight as well, but it should be the more-usual "scattered thunderstorms" and nothing like last night's derecho event (link to WaPo).

I really hope the chaos after year-before-last's big storm convinced Pepco et al to up their game a little. It's way too hot for sick and elderly people not to have power.

Yes ... they had just finished up a couple of years of renovation projects too.

I know ... we actually lucked out this time, really. When we went out to get ice (before the power came back on yesterday), we saw some of the devastation in the surrounding area. Scary.

I was watching on Friday night with a sort of horrified fascination. Our big old red oak in the front yard was thrashing its huge limbs like (as the Mr. said) a Walloping Willow. But it didn't lose anything major, thank goodness.
