The trouble with that is, I'm feeling really insecure about my abilities on this. That's why I kept putting it off and didn't do it last year. Doing a pinch hit, where I wouldn't have as much time, fills me with utter terror.
Ah, sympathies. I often feel iffy about my ability to do Yuletart because art is not one of my bigger hobbies--I mean, I do it, I enjoy it, but I haven't put in the kind of hours it would take to get significantly good at it; and a lot of the people who participate in Yuletart are very, very good. What makes it doable for me (which may not at all work for you) is that art is something I have to do fast--I rarely spend more than two days on any single piece because otherwise I freeze up or I overwork the piece and ruin it worse than it was.
Have you considered pinch-hitting and doing a craft-based Yuletart? I think I've seen people make dolls, or do knitting, and it wouldn't surprise me to see someone bake Yuletart cookies some year if it hasn't already been done--I don't know what sorts of things you do craft-wise, but I made a couple of boxes last year for Yuletart (scrapbook materials and paint on top of premade papier-mache boxes from Michael's), and it was not as hard as I had thought it would be. Would something like that relieve some of the stress and make it possible for you to still participate?
The thing that I do that has the most crowd-appeal is paper-cutting, although I am out of practice. I did a piece for telophase a while ago, in honor of something she was working on: see here.
That works pretty well for mythical stuff but might not be so well-suited to, say, manga characters.
And yes, I can do little crafty things ... they tend to be free-flowing rather than precise, though.
I guess I'll look at the pinch hit possibility ... .
Oh, that's really beautiful! I wouldn't mind seeing a cut-paper interpretation of manga, personally, but of course it's your call. Best wishes whichever way it goes--maybe you and vom_marlowe and people can organize a smaller exchange among friends, as suggested, which might be less stressful?
I'm feeling insecure about being good enough to do this in any case - I can't see begging and pleading in this case. I'm getting confident enough with writing that I might try to pull that off with Yuletide, but I've never done Yuletart before. Indeed, it's been years since I did any art more creative than icon-making.

I second the pinch hit suggestion above, though.

Well, good gosh, it wasn't like you even knew I was thinking of doing it!
But it's sweet of you to want to have done it.

We should send each other stuff, v-m!
(Only trouble is, I'm not sure how many fandoms we have in common.)
