Letters Meme!

I love my love with an F ... ! Actually, no, not really - because F is a tricksy letter, which no doubt accounts for the fact that it's worth 8 points in Scrabble (as opposed to, say, S, which is worth only 1).

Anyway, I got this at athena8's place. The meme prompt is:

1. Comment on this post.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Think of 5 fictional characters whose name starts with that letter and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.

Blippin' F! I've had to use both personal names and family names:

Mibu no Fubuki - The High Necromancer of the Mibu clan in the Tokugawa-era shounen fantasy series Samurai Deeper Kyo. He's presented initially as a dyed-in-the-wool villain - a classic evil high priest - who will ruthlessly do away with underlings and even friends if necessary. However, as with most of Kamijyo's bad guys, this senior member of the Four Elders eventually gains added dimensions and becomes in many ways an admirable man. His weird white hair and strange asymmetrical outfit would be laughable on anyone less terrifying. His relationship with his loyal lieutenant, the emo mad scientist/hit man Hishigi, is unclear, but legions of fangirls have their theories ... .
Fujiwara no Sai - The long-dead Go master who haunts the antique Go board that young Shindo Hikaru obtains from his grandfather in the modern-day shounen series Hikaru no Go. Sai is an elegant gentleman of the medieval Japanese court and dresses accordingly. He's mercurial, sentimental, and a complete fanatic about the game of Go. He's a pretty benevolent, unthreatening ghost: Hikaru bullies him all the time, often reducing Sai to tears of frustration and sorrow.
Fujioka Haruhi - The heroine of the shoujo romantic comedy school series Ouran High School Host Club. Petite, slight, boyish Haruki is an impoverished scholarship student at her exclusive high school. She prefers to wear the boys' uniform, and when she breaks a priceless antique owned by the titular host club, its members insist that she pay it off by serving as their star attraction. Haruhi is popular with the club's female "customers," who cluelessly believe her disguise. The mangaka always draws her with the most enormous shoujo eyes this side of Fruits Basket's Tohru, creating a constant layer of humorous contrast with her bluntly un-girlish behavior.
Florian AF-9979 - Ariane Emory's bodyguard/confidant/lover in C.J. Cherryh's Cyteen. (Actually, there are two Florians, but we're talking Florian Younger, here.) A lab-grown human being with a genius-level IQ, amazing security and computer skills, and the legal status of a slave, Florian will do anything that his mistress orders him to do - regretfully, perhaps, because he does have a very active conscience and a generous amount of empathy. His only other loyalty is to his partner, Catlin AC-7892. (Note to other CJC fans: the image was taken from Jane Fancher's montage illustration of Cyteen characters.)
? Francis Crawford of Lymond - The brilliant, mercurial, resourceful, suave, witty hero of Dorothy Dunnett's massive historical series, The Lymond Chronicles (six volumes, each more than 500 pages). He's usually called Lymond, and he is a bon vivant, scholar, mercenary soldier, musician, master of disguise, adventurer, and - to many of the other characters in the series - of dubious loyalties and morals. By turns achingly vulnerable and tremendously infuriating, this is a character who more than earns his eventual happy ending. Dunnett is said to have imagined him resembling the young Peter O'Toole, but I can't find a picture of the actor in his younger days that I like enough to post here.
