If the top element of the toaster-oven-broiler is apparently not working, one should not touch the bottom element to see whether the same is true of it, as well.
Not that bad, all things considered. See, if it had been red, I wouldn't have touched it. But I'd been flipping the selector back and forth between "broil" and "bake" in an attempt to get the top element going, and the bottom one had actually got fairly hot, although not enough to glow, from that.
It's only a little skinny first-degree burn, but it's on the touching surface of the middle finger of my right hand (and I'm right-handed), so it's awkward.

How many layers of skin did that peel off?

Wasn't as bad as I'd feared ... the thing wasn't red hot, after all. But I did have a definite "Migawd you're stupid, cho" moment.

Nobbut a little thin first-degree burn, once all was said and done. But I can't believe I did that!

>hugs!<
In the end, it wasn't too bad - the element wasn't red-hot, after all, or I'd never have touched it.
