I'm sad you didn't like it, but everyone likes different stuff in different ways. It really worked for me, as did the sequel, but I love the kind of lush descriptive language and worldbuilding that other people often find annoying. It didn't bother me so much that Camille was a bit of a simple character, because I was rolling around in the visuals.
