Don't know if you've read all the "4th and Austin" Saiyuki AU stories, but the one in which young Joe (Gojyo) first gets together with Buzz (Banri, but he's much nicer than Banri), they're both just totally drunk and talking about finding some girls, or even a girl, and eventually end up kissing, and Buzz is thinking "Maybe they didn't need that girl after all." That's the sort of thing that I could see as possible.
